History
Kingsclere Dental Practice has been serving patients throughout Alton for over 90 years!
The building was built in 1897, but it didn’t become a dentist straight away. It was built for Harry Wilson (the Master of the Alton Union Warehouse). Kingsclere was probably intended to provide their family with rental income (they lived in Stowell Villa next door).
The first dentist to move into the building was a Percy W. Binsted who moved in between 1924 and 1931. Having been born in 1900 he would have been quite young when he started. He stayed at Kingsclere until at least 1949, which is the last record we have of him residing at the building. Mr Binsted passed away himself in 1967.
Working alongside Mr. Binsted at Kingsclere was Mr. Steve Kench. The pair ran the 2 practices throughout the 1950’s and 60’s in Kingsclere and Liss.
Our patients still tell us of memories of visiting Binstead and Kench as children or recounting the experiences of their parents. Thankfully, dentistry has come a long way since those days!
